How to Travel on the Cheap
For those who like to travel there seems to be two barriers
that prevent them from doing it more often: time and money. While I can’t get
you more days off, I can point out some tips on how to travel without spending
too much.
This is one of my favorite ways to travel. It lets you
experience more of your surrounding and can make your trip more spontaneous. If
you already have a car you don’t have to worry about car rental, but if renting
is necessary check out kayak.com to find the best deal over multiple discount
sites.
Wait till the Last Minute
Especially on road trips I often leave booking hotels to the
last minute. The night or even a few hours before I want to check in I look up
what is available on Priceline.com. At that point hotels just want to fill
rooms and you can get great bargains. Don’t do this if there is a major event
or for cities such as New York. You might find everything within budget booked
up.
Booking Flights
If you really want to leave the country finding a cheap
flight can be a bit tricky. If you don’t care when or maybe even where you go google.com/flights
can help you find a good deal. It lets you see on a map how much it is to fly
to cities all over the world from a starting point. The other day I found a
flight from New York to Oslo for under $400 round-trip. If you’re super savvy,
having credit cards with travel points can also cut down the cost on tickets.
These three tips can really save you a lot and add a bit of
spontaneity to your travels!
